An Authentic Dog Sledding Experience in Northern Canada

Hudson Bay Quest training runWapusk Adventures is Churchill, Manitoba, Canada's largest sled dog kennel and a leader in this northern mushing community.

Dave Daley, owner of Wapusk Adventures, has long had respect for running dogs and for the trapping lifestyle. In 2000, Dave started running dog sled tours from behind their gift shop, Wapusk General Store, in Churchill.

This small operation has grown through hard work and commitment to dogs and to Churchill into a full-fledged kennel just inside the treeline. At Wapusk Adventures, you will find a small community of racing huskies - each with their own personality and style - plus a trappers cabin, groomed trail system, custom designed tour sleds and even resident gray jays. It is a true northern dog sled experience!

Manitoba Aboriginal Tourism AwardWapusk Adventures is the proud winner of the 2005 Manitoba Aboriginal Tourism Award and the Manitoba Hydro Spirit of the Earth Award. Dave is also the founder of the Hudson Bay Quest, a yearly gruelling 200 mile dog sled race along the coast of Hudson Bay and the edge of Wapusk National Park.

Take some time to explore our site and if you have any questions or would like to book a tour, feel free to contact us. We can't wait to see you in Churchill!

2010 Wapusk Adventures Season Wrap-up - Dog Sleds, Snow Shovels and a Polar Bear Too

We would like to thank all who came out and spent time with us and or dogs. This year, we experienced unseasonably high temperatures for much of the season resulting in our usual October snow falling as rain. Wapusk Adventures would like to credit our mushers with going the extra mile this year and shovelling snow onto the trail so that we could stay on dog sleds for over half the season. After our first blizzard on October 28th, we worked together to keep our trail from melting. By November 10th - when the next snowfall finally arrived - we were getting worried that we would run out of snow off the trail to shovel on to the trail! But everything worked out and we are proud to say that Wapusk Adventures ran dogsleds almost two weeks longer than any other company in Churchill. This is just another way we go above and beyond for our client experience.

2010 also saw our first polar bear encounter in twelve years with clients on the sled. It occurred on the last day of the season as our two tour sleds finished the Ididamile turnaround and found a mother and cub right on the trail. She moved off as our snowmobile support came down the trail and encouraged her to safely move away from the camp. Everything worked out well and our clients were pretty excited about the whole event to say the least!

Each year, we invest in our kennel (besides dog food...) and this off-season will be no different. We are looking at bringing in two custom designed training carts to assist in our early season Ididamile tours but also our training program for the 2012 Yukon Quest. Stay tuned...

We have now moved on to real training for the dogs this winter - 25, 40 and 65 mile runs getting ready for racing in 2011. This year, Wapusk Adventures will be running the Hudson Bay Quest from Gillam to Churchill and the Canadian Challenge in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The Canadian Challenge will be used as our final qualifier to race in th Yukon Quest in 2012.
